It's easy to look ahead to what's next, even if the Samsung Galaxy S23 series—especially the huge Galaxy S23 Ultra—remains some of the greatest Android phones available right now. Samsung unveiled two new folding phones lately, one of which is the enormous Galaxy Z Fold 5. If, however, you have no interest in foldable, the company's upcoming flagships, the Galaxy S24 series, will be available early next year.
Design and Specifications
We're beginning to get more information about the possible design of Samsung's upcoming phone, even if design reports about the Galaxy S24 have been slow to circulate. It sounds like the S24 series might follow in Apple's footsteps, and depending on the model, it will be in more ways than one. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed the company's design tendencies over the past few years.
All three phones should maintain a largely consistent appearance. After all, Samsung has started to unify its design language for phones in 2023, even for entry-level models like the Galaxy A14. Early renders seem to indicate that a revolutionary new design is unlikely for release the following year. Images of the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra have surfaced, and they very much seem like what you would expect. despite the latter appears to maintain rounded rails despite making a single, large shift, the former has squared edges that are reminiscent of the latest iPhones.
Regarding that screen, it appears that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a flat panel display that is approximately 6.8 inches in size and has a resolution of 1440 pixels. However, it will have a peak brightness of 2,500 nits this time around. Compared to the 1,750 nits panel on the Galaxy S23 Ultra in 2023, that is a huge improvement. When you take into account the reports about the flat screen and the fact that the S24 Ultra will weigh only 233g thanks to a titanium frame, it seems like a significant improvement over the phone from this year.
But what about the other phones? This year, Samsung is focusing on the Galaxy S24+, finally making some significant display upgrades. Apart from having somewhat bigger screens than its predecessors, the S24 and S24+ will also have QHD resolution, which will result in an even denser pixelation than the S24 Ultra.
As for the specs, it's a little easier to assume. The newly-announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC will likely power the Galaxy S24 in the U.S. and internationally. The two companies teamed up to craft a custom variant of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for the Galaxy S23 last year, and it's hard to imagine that partnership coming to an end. Meanwhile, expect between 8GB and 12GB of RAM — and, in some regions, only 8GB total — in these phones, as well as various storage levels potentially as high as 2TB on the Ultra. Basically, it's another modern smartphone.
