When Google released the Android 5.0 Lollipop source code back in November, the 3rd to be precise, HTC promised to update its flagship smartphone to the latest build of the open-source operating system within 90 days. This makes February HTC’s self-imposed deadline, but if a recent report is anything to go by, it looks like we could be seeing the update 29 days sooner than expected.
At a private press event in London, HTC allegedly announced that it will start rolling out the eagerly-awaited Lollipop over-the-air update to all unlocked variants of the One (M8) and the original One (M7) located in Europe on Saturday, January 3, 2015.
All the changes you anticipate to find in Lollipop are presumed to be bundled into this update, including Google’s recently-announced Material Design guidelines, improved notifications, a smoother multitasking experience and support for multiple user accounts. HTC has also revamped a handful of its own, stock applications too.
As with all leaks, rumors and speculation we have to take this information with a pinch of salt, at least until HTC provides us with some solid evidence with regards to when exactly it will be rolling out the update, but thankfully we don’t have too much longer to wait to find out.
