Samsung_Galaxy_Alpha_blackWhile it’s been a few weeks since Corning announced the new Gorilla Glass 4, what it didn’t announce was that there were phones already sporting the new glass. While we don’t know why Corning waited until now to announce it, the company announced in a press release that the Samsung Galaxy ALPHA sports the new Gorilla Glass.
While there are suggestions that the Galaxy Note 4 also sports it, Corning did not mention it in its press release. That said, Corning states that the new Gorilla Glass is a part of what makes the Galaxy ALPHA as thing as it is.
“Corning spends a great deal of time collaborating with Samsung to recommend solutions that will continually improve their device design and performance,” Cliff Hund, general manager and president, Corning East Asia, said. “Device makers want to go thinner without sacrificing damage resistance. Samsung is not only meeting these requirements, but is on the cutting edge of smartphone design. The Galaxy ALPHA is the culmination of our close collaboration with Samsung.”
The Gorilla Glass 4 in the ALPHA is 0.4mm leaving the rest of the phone to be 6.4 mm in thickness, for a total of 7.0mm. So if you’re the proud owner of the ALPHA you now have another reason to be so. Not only is the device a departure from previous Samsung phones but it also features the stronger Gorilla Glass 4. If that doesn’t put your mind at ease, I don’t know what will.
