The budget segment has been buzzing since the arrival of Xiaomi offerings earlier this year in a handful of global markets. ASUS has now decided to leverage some of that demand with its new Pegasus X002 budget smartphone.
The device comes in with a measly price tag of $128, making it a direct competitor to the Xiaomi Redmi 1S. Expectedly, the smartphone will only be sold in China initially with no mention of a global launch as of yet.
The Pegasus X002 is packing a moderate 5 inch 720p display, an 8-megapixel camera on the back, a 5-megapixel front camera, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat with the ASUS Zen UI.
The device runs on the MediaTek MT6732 quad core 64-bit chipset and features support for 4G LTE networks by default. There’s a moderately sized 2,500 mAh battery on board as well.
While the Pegasus doesn’t offer the same value as the Meizu Blue Charm Note, it goes without saying that this device will appeal to a wide range of audiences in China. The fact that it’s not as large as the Meizu offering might also work in its favor.
