Samsung to permanently discontinue WatchON in several markets

Samsung first introduced the WatchON service with the Galaxy S4 last year allowing customers to use it as a remote or a TV guide for Samsung TVs or set top boxes.
But now, some users of the app are receiving notifications informing them of the platform’s demise. It is said that WatchON will cease to function after December 31, 2014 in all markets except the U.S. and South Korea.
While the reasons for this are unknown at the moment, lack of popularity obviously had a huge part to play in the decision taken by Samsung. WatchON was only available in a handful of Asian and European countries.
The company said the following in a statement – “On December 31st, 2014, Samsung WatchON will discontinue full service in all markets, except the United States and Korea. We would like to assure customers that content previously purchased through Samsung WatchON will not be affected and will remain accessible through the relevant content provider’s application. We ask all customers with questions or concerns to please contact our customer support team by visiting the following website: http://help.content.samsung.com.”
